Is it worth it to pay for dating apps?

I asked myself this question a few times after getting bombarded with passive ads nudging me to upgrade.

Now usually I wouldn't bat an eye at these attempts but a few weeks ago I decided to take a leap of faith and here's the verdict (from my experience):

Disclaimer

If on the free version your profile gets 0 likes after a week instead of paying adjust the way your profile is set first before getting into paid features.

For context on my take, I would describe myself as an average looking male (6.5/10), average height (under 5'9), slim individual in a large city of  500 000 + and paid-for apps Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, Coffee Meets Bagel

The short answer is no... well maybe, it depends.

Not all dating apps are a one size fits.

Each one comes with its own type of crowd. For example Tinder and hookup culture or on the opposite side of things Bumble and a serious relationship.

To really give an accurate verdict, it would take an individual app post for each as results can vary.

Overall though with paid features, the job was done. My number of matches went from about 2-4 a week (free) to about 3-7 (paid). Almost doubled universally.

Now did that get me more dates? Not really but that all comes down to the actual conversations I was having and combability with the matches.

At the end of the day paid features on dating apps will increase your exposure and reach to the most users. This is key if you are looking to get more matches. Specifically, if it's a feature that allows you unlimited swipes.

A brief side note worth mentioning, when paying with a monthly plan there was definitely a boost in exposure for the 1st 1-2 weeks but after then it sizzles down a bit.

Ultimately spending a month or week on a premium feature would be a safe bet, if you do decide to pay on dating apps.

It can greatly assist your chances while not threatening your bank account in the process.
