Hinge - "the dating app that's meant to be deleted" has been trending upward and emerged as a serious contender for best in the online dating market to use.
That being said are its paid features worth the purchase?
(Source: ChristmasVacation - Tenor)From my journey as a paid member, only 1 feature was really worth the purchase.
But before highlighting the 1 feature, here's what can be purchased on Hinge:
Will you accept this rose?
(Source: mondoguitar - tenor)Roses - Basically a super like. The user you send it to will see your profile first. (A free one is provided to every user each week)
Boost - Puts you among the first profiles users see when swiping during a specific hour.
Hinge Preferred: Provides users unlimited likes, the ability to see who has liked them first, and filter preferences from religion to kids to drug usage and everything in between.
The verdict
- Hinge preferred is a gem that actually makes a difference.
Users have the ability to send a message without even matching first. This is important to note because the biggest limitation of the free version is that you can only send a couple of likes a day.
With hinge premium sending likes without this limit will no doubt increase your chances of getting more matches and faster.
On top of that, you are able to narrow in on specific traits and qualities you are looking for in a match to make the selection easier. (Height, Drugs, Alcohol, No kids, etc.)
* Sidenote when possible always send a message with the like.
- Roses have some success but users get a free 1 every week anyways
A rose is given for free every week, so the purchase really is unnecessary. It can help if you want to stand out even without sending a message first. At the same time however in most cases, users won't just match because they received a rose, they will need to look at your profile (as expected).
I find the rose can also be taken as too strong of your interest early on therefore a person could be taken back or not even consider it.
- Boost comes up empty-handed and is more a less a cash grab
Boost has a low success rate. 2 reasons why this feature falls short is because
1. There's no way to tell for certain at what time period users are most online.
2. Not all users that swipe during the time of your boost are guaranteed to like you back, the only thing that is guaranteed is your exposure to other people.
(Source: tweeeak - tenor)Ultimately, save your coins and don't buy boost or roses.
Hinge is phenomenal as a free app but I would recommend being a hinge preferred member. Even for a month, this 1 feature will boost your success and not take away too much from your wallet.
