The poster child of a dating app powered by women - Bumble.
Regarded as one of the best sources for building connections and being here for a "long time rather than just a good time", are its paid features all the more worth it?
Before getting into the verdict, below are the features offered on the app:
Bumble Paid Features
Spotlight - Puts your profile among the first users see during a specific time. Available in an interval of 30 or 150 minutes
Superswipe - Another version of a super like. The user who it is sent to gets a notification and a star symbol appears when they view your profile.
Premium - 1 spotlight and 5 super swipes (per week), the ability to undo a left swipe/pass, unlimited swipes, unlimited extension of an extra 24 hours (Once but on multiple users)
Boost - Everything on Premium + the ability to see who liked you, rematch with any expired users, access to advanced features (such as height, star sign, etc.), travel (change your location to anywhere in the world) and incognito mode (allows you to pause your account from being shown to new users)
Verdict
Bumble can be a tough use even with the free version. Overall paying for additional features doesn't do much to accelerate the process and I wouldn't suggest it.
Here's really the only 2 reasons why...
1. Time limit
With Bumble once you match with another user there is a 24-hour limit to send the 1st message (can be extended to a max of 48 hours). The main problem with this is some users forget to come back and send that opening message before the match expires.
(Source: Tenor - DavidWorren)Now it could just simply mean they weren't interested or it was an accidental swipe. On the other side of things though, people do get busy or caught up to the point that they don't respond for 2-3 days.
Whether the first case is true or the latter, a time limit of 24-48 hours isn't enough for some users, making this unique Bumble app feature a hit or miss.
2. User activity
A few months ago a new notice was added on user profiles, near the bottom of their opening profile picture a message would show saying "new here".
While this is great and pretty much the only indication of a new user, many of the profiles seem as if they haven't been active in a while.
From experience, much of the matches I would get during my time on the app were from newer users. The app does claim to hide users who have not been active for more than 30 days but from personal results it seems like otherwise.
Rating of the paid features
Both the spotlight and super swipe feature have led to matches however given the 2 reasons mentionned above its taken quite a few uses of both features only to get a handful of results. The trade-off wasn't really worth it in the end.
As an estimate for about every 10 super likes sent I would get only 2 or 3 matches, that in itself is without taking into account which of them sent the 1st message to start a conversation.
With spotlight, it was more or less the same, in some cases no likes would be a result.
Ultimately save your coins and stick to the free version of the app. If anything purchasing boost for even a month might aid your chances as that out of all features is the most worth it.
The paid version does give you more exposure however that doesn't equal to all the more likes. There is the possibility of having some quality matches but its worth the wait with the free version.
